WILMINGTON, New York — A 52 year old skier from Hagerstown, Md. died in a skiing accident Friday morning at Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks.
Bradford Browning, skiing with several family members on the Upper Northway run, fell and slid off the trail at approximately 10 a.m. Whiteface Ski Patrol responded and transported him to the base of the mountain. From there, he was brought by ambulance to the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m.
New York State Police, based in Ray Brook, are continuing their investigation and said an autopsy was to be performed Friday.
Browning, an advanced to expert skier, was not wearing a helmet. Northway is an expert trail which begins on Little Whiteface Mountain. The run was groomed prior to opening. Conditions were listed as loose and frozen granular.
A follow-up report from New York State Police is expected this evening.
