Jay Peak 2/13 ,14 & 15 w/ powder pics!Feb 15, 2006 - 7:12 PM
Resort skied Jay Peak Conditions Powder! Trip Report I left home late Sunday morning to light/moderate snow falling but it diddnt take long for it to fizzle out to nothing the further north and west I traveled  .After an unusually uneventful drive up I arrived at Jay and the sun was trying to poke out of the clouds while a blizzard was pounding Boston and New York City  . I had a wonderful dinner at the Belfry and then headed to the Snowshoe Lodge for some pool and suds. I met a couple cool cats and ended up shooting partners with them. Well after a few games it was time to call it a night and head back through the Notch to the Snowline to rest up for Monday's adventures.Monday Monday morning brought cold and wind but no new snow overnight from the Blizzard of '06 . It was pretty much a groomer day for me. I did hit Canyonland which was ok but had lots of crusty ice bumps that made it unpleasnt at times. One of the more interesting things that happened on Monday was the HUGE white hare that shot across Northway as I came screaming up on it  . I bet I got within ten feet of it! Another interesting thing I saw  At the end of the day it was starting to snow and it was accumulating!For supper and a little apre' I went back to the Belfry(after a hot shower) and saw my pool patner from the night before. By now it was snowing pretty good and spirits were getting higher every minute. We decided to head to the Jay Village Inn since they have redone the downstairs since last season and made it into a pub with a couple pool tables, some nice soft chairs and a little live music. It's just what that side of the mountain needed  . My new pool partner and I decided it would be a good idea to hook up in the AM and sample some fresh lines together so we called it a night about 10 and said our prayers to Ullr.Tuesday POWDER DAY!  At 5:15am the mountain reported 4-6 inces and at 9am it was still coming down! I hooked up with my bud in the Tram lodge just after 9 and we headed up the Freezer. He had to leave by noon to drive 7 1/2 hours back home to Jersey to shovel out the 2 feet of snow that fell during the Blizzard ! Well I tell you what, we sure made the most of it! In this order we hit North Glade, Spuds  Expo Glade, Hell's Woods to the Jet triple, Timbuktu, Kitz Woods, Kitz Woods, Powerline, Deliverance, and finally North Glade before his departure. Every trail was boot top or better! and it was a very light and dry snow too which made it lots of fun. It snowed all day with differnt degrees of intensity but I bet they picked up at least another 4 inches  . I finished off the day ripping up trail after trail of deepening powder, every run getting better and better. Wednesday was going to be excellent.Wednesday PWDER DAY Holy crap, more new snow overnight!  Another couple of inches fell after I went to sleep tusday night giving Jay about a foot of new snow since I started skiing Monday! Tee-hee! It was much warmer Wednesday morning and the sun was shining. It was going to be a glorious day!  I started with a warm-up down North Glade which now had regular shots over the knees!    AS I rode up the Freezer again I noticed that nobody had skied Everglade yet so I was off to mark my territory.    I decided it was a good time to head to the Jet Triple and sample the goods on that side of the mountain.  I hopped into Timbuktu and found tons of fresh line over the knees!  The Apple Orchard was delicious!  The Jet Triple was shut down when I got to the bottom and I had to hoof it up to the Red Chair.By now it was really warming up and it was well above freeezing. The snow was starting to get a bit heavy and sticky.  I finished off the day doing several more laps in North Glade wich had boottop-knee deep fresh lines everywhere.   The new snow that fell really made the difference. Jay was awsome again! Keep in mind though that much of the new snow fell on some glare ice in the woods and it is still very thin and potentially dangerous. On Tuesday I was skiing Spuds when the snow I was turning on slid from underneath my skis as it was on some steep ice. This sent me into a headfirst fall in the trees  . Luckily I slammed my upper arm and not my face which was a potential impact point. It was a hard enough impact that I can still feel pain as I type this but I'm sure it's not broken.So go get some!
