WAITSFIELD, Vermont -- The 18th Annual Mad River Valley Century Ride will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008. Called the "coolest century" by Bicycling Magazine, it is a scenic ride through central Vermont. The route follows the Mad, Winooski, Dog, and White Rivers. It passes through Vermont's historic capital of Montpelier and the picturesque villages of Waitsfield, Randolph, Bethel, and Rochester. The ride is fully supported with sag wagons and there are rest stops approximately every 25 miles.
Past participants keep coming back: "This was the best of the seven century rides I did last year. With only four turns, you can get up a head of steam and keep going. Excellent food! Both during and after. I'll go back for my third time."
The Century Ride has donated to various organizations over the years. This year's beneficiaries are the Waitsfield Children's Center, a non-profit accredited preschool, and Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, a non-profit organization that empowers individuals with disabilities to participate in sports and recreation.
There is a pre-ride carbo-loading buffet and early check-in on Friday night. Entry includes a Ride T-Shirt, the renowned Hyde Away Inn all-you-can-eat post-ride BBQ buffet, rest stops with food and beverages, and sag support. Additional BBQ tickets are available for family and friends.
