CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- With nearly three feet of snow this week and more than 100 inches of snow since the start of the skiing and riding season, Sugarloaf is offering the best New Year conditions in nearly a decade.

More than 15 inches of snow fell overnight Tuesday bringing the weekly snow total to 32 inches. As a result of the copious amounts of snow, combined with non stop snowmaking, Sugarloaf anticipates opening trails in the Front Face Snowfields as early as this weekend.

Snowmaking will continue through the weekend on White Nitro in the center of the Front Face. The above treeline trail offers one of the steepest pitches on the mountain and unobstructed views that extend across Maine and beyond.

Tuesday's snow is also to credit with opening as many as 118 of Sugarloaf's 134 trails, or nearly 90 percent of Sugarloaf's terrain.

The new snow comes on the heels of one of the best Decembers in recent history, including a nearly perfect Christmas holiday week. "Skiing and riding play a huge part in making tourism a year round force in Maine's economy," said Frank Guerriero, Sugarloaf director of marketing. "Snowfall like this puts Maine skiing and riding in the spotlight as a premiere winter destination. As a result, we're seeing great numbers of skiers and riders from throughout New England and Canada."

In addition to unbeatable conditions, Sugarloaf offers a number of exciting events off the slopes throughout the month of January including College Week, White White World Week, and the Bud Light Concert Series with G. Love and Special Sauce on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.
